I recently picked up a new home theater along with the MX-900 to handle things. However, after installing the programming software I have found that whenever I plug in the remote to the computer via the supplied USB cable I get the following alert:

"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

The USB port is 2.0 and the OS is Windows XP.

I have tried this on two different laptops with the same results and have about given up on this. I noticed that Harmony also makes an RF capable remote (890) and didn't know if their product is easier to program.

Any insight or help is appreciated.

Have you called URC? Have you tried a different cable? You might have a defective remote.

Harmony is easier to program, but not if you want to do anythin beside basic Activites. MX900 is a much better remote.

Chitwood,

I had the same problem you're having; and it was driving me insane. Then I tried a different USB cable (the one that came with the Harmony 890 I'm replacing, ironically) and everything worked fine.

So try a different USB cable.

I had the same error with the supplied USB cable, but it works fine with a different one. Have URC got hold of a bad batch of cables, I wonder?
