Hello guys I just bough the MX-980 from ebay.ca and I think I made a big mistake. I was wondering wich remote to get and I finally believed URC's MX line was the best pick for my HT. I've choose the 980 and bough it from ebay for nearly 400$... The thing is THERE IS NO SOFTWARE WITH THE REMOTE and there's none avalaible at URC's official site. I'm really feeling bad for what's happening because I did'nt know at all that there was some software issues with this remote. I'm waiting on a MRF-350 too... I'm such a newbie and I live in Canada where nothing's avalaible. Will I be stuck with a 400$ remote + 150$ base station that won't work???

On URC's official site they got the software for pretty much all their PC programable remotes beside the MX-980... It's avalaible for the tx 1000, mx 810, 850, 900, 950 and 3000. When you spend that much money on a remote there should'nt be any software issue what the big deal anyway?

The ONLY ONE in Canada is in Ontario which is about 350 miles from where I live this iis the last answer I got from my ebayer:
These are all questions you are supposed to ask prior to bidding. Our listing clearly states that. I will help you in any way we can but our add says nothing about software, we had may customers ask these questions prior to bidding and were well aware the software was not included. The universal web site also says the software will be avalabel at some point but for now the remote has to be programed by a dealer. Maybe you could locate a dealer near Canada that will program the remote then send it back to you, just a suggestion.
He's right about ''These are all questions you are supposed to ask prior to bidding'' but I did'nt know there was no software with the remote this is such a rip off to sell a remote you can't use...
He also state ''The universal web site also says the software will be avalabel at some point but for now the remote has to be programed by a dealer'' is that right??? Will URC is going to put the software on their official site?
It might seems I'm repeating myself but theses are posts I wrote in AVS forum where I got poster to tell me to come here (RC forum) to figure out what I can do...

First....buy things like this only from authorized sellers who back up the sale and service. Scams are all over ebay.
Here's what I'd do, in this exact order. Call the ebay seller and let them know you will not be accepting the package delivery. Do not accept the package and have it returned to sender. Tell ebay seller you want a refund less the shipping charges they incurred. If they don't agree, dispute the charge on your credit card with product never received as the reason and leave them negative feedback (to make yourself feel a little better).

I think it is really scummy that the seller didn't spell this out in his listing. You shouldn't have to know to ask if it is usable as shipped.
You can't use the item for its intended purpose without the software.

Ok I did what you told me. I told the ebayer that I will not accept the delivery and want a refund less shipping. I also left a message to Coolbuy (Authorized dealer in Canada and I think that's the only one) to figure out what my options are. Since the software was'nt mentioned in the description I'm kind of screwed-up, Am I? And if I do return the MX-980 I won't be able to dispute the charge on my credit card (they will see the package got sent back).

Sean Yeah I know that I'm just 2 days too late... The seller did'nt mentioned the software, ok but he should mentioned that you would need a professional installer to get it! I'm a newbie with remotes and now I know, but it's too little too late.

You can dispute the charge with your credit card company. In fact, I recommend that over Paypal's system. Paypal isn't very helpful when the item is sent by the seller, so you'll have better luck with the credit card company.
The item they sent you did not work without the software, so you refused delivery. The seller has the item, you need a refund for that item. I don't think they'll give you any trouble. If you tried to keep it, that would be a different story.
I do think that eventually URC will post a non-updatable version of the 980 software on their site, but it is very new and they haven't done it yet.

Sean I did use paypal and I told the reseller I would'nt accept the package. I can return this remote to paypal? Here's the link for my remote at ebay.ca could you check it and tell me what you think? [Link: cgi.cafr.ebay.ca] 148649&_trksid=p3984.cTODAY.m238.lVI

Oy.... why would you return it to PayPal...they've got nothing to do with it. Listen carefully man. You said in the post above that the remote has not arrived, right? Don't even think about opening that package to see if you will magically be able to program it.
RETURN TO SENDER while the postal carrier is still there. Tell him you have know idea what it is or who the package is from if he questions you.
If they don't issue a refund less shipping (to me this is fair), dispute with your credit card. Done deal. It will take about 2 billing cycles to work it out but I know how this stuff works. I've run a few internet storefronts and know the process in and out from both angles.

So you think I really can get thru this? I wish I do cause I've lost 400$ so far plus I got an MRF-350 in order too. So should I try to return the MFR-350 as well or stick with MX products even ir it's a pain to get it program in canade?

You can always get any other URC remote (with software) to use with the MRF-350. If there's no other remote you want to use, then I'd return it as well. I didn't know that you hadn't received the package yet. You should definitely refuse delivery or return it. If you used a credit card through PayPal, you can easily get the charge removed through them. Otherwise, notifying Paypal that you've refused/returned the package should do the same. This is all assuming that the seller refuses to refund your money.
