I've ordered an MX-850 and should get it in a few days. In the meantime I've been reading thru the MXEditor manual. A couple of questions:

First, is it possible to program the number keys 1-5 w/a macro that would go to the corresponding Channel Favorite page (using Pause). For instance, if I just press 1-2-3 normally, it goes to channel 123, but if I press 3 and hold it for X seconds it would instead go to page 3 of my channel favorites. That would be nice.

Also, if I would like to use just one of the devices out of several in a MXF file that I got from this site, I should: Open the file, export that device, close that file, open my own file, import that device. Correct?

Thanks much,
Harold

1) Off the top of my head I don't think this can be done. Those hard buttons can't have macros stored on them, and while they can be aliased to another button that DOES, that loses any preprogrammed or learned code that was originally on the key, and as far as I know you can't get a double-function button to work by using a shortcut.

2) That would work, OR you can also use the Universal Browser to open the MXF and then drag-and-drop individual commands.

Thanks, Daniel. I see now that ON/OFF are the only hard buttons that can do macros.

Easier just to put your jumps and/or macros on the LCD keys. :-)

Ah! Can the LCD buttons do both a command and a macro w/Pause? For instance, on the first page for my cable box could I have my commonly-used commands (Prev Channel, A-B-C buttons, etc) while having the first five buttons also as macros w/the Pause function, which would go to my five fav pages?

Thanks,
Harold

While that command structure WOULD work, you cannot link directly to the FAV section of the remote (there's only the FAV hard button for that).

Daniel, so the FAV button cannot be used in a macro? Or the PAGE button?

And if not, here's a thought: Would it be possible to take a second 850, assuming I could get one, and teach my 850 the FAV & PAGE buttons from that remote onto LCD keys on my remote? Or am I just getting crazy?

Thanks,
H

You cannot page jump to or otherwise reference the FAV section from elsewhere in the remote. But the remote has a big FAV button for getting there, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

And, unless you actually have 20 components, there's going to be unused devices with four screens each that you can otherwise do whatever you want on.

I think this is all going to be a lot clearer when you get the remote and can sit down with the software.

Ok, sorry for driving you nuts, yeah, I'll just wait until I get the darn thing in my hand.

As far as my reasons, as I understand it, to get to, say, pg 5 of my favs, I have to press 6 buttons, then the actual fav button, and I'm on the channel. OTOH, I can just press the actual channel numbers, 3 buttons, and I'm on that channel in 4 fewer "steps". Soooo, I'm not exactly sure what the advantage of the FAV channel pages are. Perhaps grouping fav's like movie channels, news channels, and such? I'll just have to wait and see when I get it.

Thanks again for your help,
Harold

Oh wait, I think I get what you mean about the Device pages. I only have 5 devices. So, lemme ask one more thing, then I'll shut up. Could I name the 6-10 buttons on my first Main page something like FAV 1, Fav 2, and so on. Then when I press Fav 1 it goes to my first page of Fav 1, where I could have macros going to my fav channels. Would that work?

Ok, really, I'm finished!

Alright, I lied, I'm not finished. But, by George, I think I've got it. I setup the Fav 1 - Fav 5 DEVICES on Main like I said. On my CABLE box first page I also have five buttons Fav 1 - Fav 5. Fav 1 is programmed to GOTO DEVICE Fav 1 Pg 1, where I press whatever channel button, which is programmed to go the channel, then GOTO CABLE PG 1, so I'm back in my cable menu 1st page. And so on with as many FAV pages as I need. Never more than 2 buttons pressed!

Kewl! If it'll work, of course.

Harold
