Has anyone tried to use a RS232 cable in place of a flasher with the MRF 350 ?
I know that I can do this with the MSC 400 but I only want to control one thing, that
being a DSC security panel.

Thanks

I am not an expert, but I don't see how this would work as the 350 only sends IR signals and the 400 can be programed to send either and even with the 400 it is only the 2nd set of ports that can do this. Those ports also have more contacts vs just 2 for IR.

Which rs232 interface are you using Pc5401 or IT100? I've got experience with the IT100 and would be amazed if one could get a coded IR message to replicate the message format required.

The Idea started when I first saw the new KP 900
I remember reading a thread where someone had said that they were controling the DSC
security panel with the MSC 400. I thought for sure it was here but can not find it again.

The DSC PC 5401 is still avaible and the IT 100 is the newest version.

The Leviton RF Z-wave RZCS4-1LX Scene controller has IR sensor ....So here is my
lighting.
We know the KP 900 can take care of the audio
Now we just need to be able to arm and disarm the security system and we got mini
AMX / Crestron

The DSC Developers guide has the communications protocol and commands

Help me out guys !!

The thing is the MSC400 is capable of controlling RS232 enabled devices. The MRF350 isn't. Doesn't matter if you hook up the RS232 cable to the MRF350. It won't do anything.

Arming and disarming the DSC panel is done in two parts.

1)send request to disarm to panel
2)Panel responds with 900? status (need password)
3)must send password

I do not beleive it would be possible with an IR remote RF based station. You could do it by signalling a PC and having it send the RS232 based messages.

although it is not recommended!!!!!!

You could use an ir controlled relay (xantech) and an empty zone on the alarm panel. just define the alarm zone as a "key switch" zone.

Thanks for all the help guys
I have a hard time justifying the cost of the MSC 400 because the only thing
That I could use it for would be the security system. But I am going to see if I can
Get the Company to get me one so I can goof around with the programming.

I did not want to go the computer / software route but I would get more options
And control this way. And at a lower cost.
Just saw one of these the other day and thought it was cool.

Here is another site I found that has a cool program

I will be going to the Electronic House Expo in a few weeks so I’m sure
That I will find more ways to spend my hard earned cash !
