I have an MX600 remote to control my components in my living room. I kept the good remote for my media room. I need to know if there is a fix for the backlight not working or if I just need to buy another remote control.

Is the backlight not working, or is it the actual backlight switch itself that seems to be the problem?

Lots of the MX-500, 600, etc. series had problems with the switch itself. Sometimes, depending upon the problem, you can take the remote apart and fix the switch.
When ignorance is bliss, ‘tis folly to be wise.

The only way to turn on the backlight is from the switch, and the switch does not work. I guess I'll take it apart and fix it. I looked at it last night, and can't figure out how to take it apart. Any tips would be appreciated.

Do a search on this and the other URC forum for instructions. I think they're for the MX-700 which for all intents and purposes has the same case. It involves twisting the two pieces apart starting at the top, but I've never done it so I don't know more than that.
