I was just reading the user's manual at the FCC site they link to. Seems like a semi stripped down remote that interoperates with exisiting RF recievers and flashers. Depending on price could be a nice addition to a whole house control.

Yay, another product that'll likely have software that was rushed out the door.

Don't get me wrong, I like the fact that URC is coming out with new products, and I do like this as an alternative to the B&K KP's (especially the fact that it is RF. You can now place keypads where you could never get wires before), but it seems that every new product URC comes out with, has half completed software.

In all honesty, I would rather see URC perfect their existing product before coming out with tons more. Even the previous live update screwed up the 850 and 800 software, a product that should have been perfected years ago.

While I agree with 8ate8 about the way some of the software has been implemented and updated, the KP-900 is basically a wall-mounted MX-900, so it shouldn't have too many software problems. The prototype I saw slides in a wall-mounted holder, for easy removal, battery replacement and programming.

This keypad/remote is a great idea. I have to think the this was leaked out by URC purposely...

Its was leaked for Pre Beta, this way we will all see what they are thinking of making, we offer our suggestions and thay make hardware changes before they release it.

Whaen it is released it will havr the buggy software we are all used to so that will be another thing to deal with.

I like the idea of it being wireless but it should have the option to be hardwired or inwall mounted as well. The top row of buttons is to be desired, the volume up and down next to on and off....."yep that press of volume down sure put the volume down quick"...as the system powers down due to a missed button press and off was accidently hit instead of vol down.

replaceable keys would be nice, or as they would expect us to just program the power buttons as press and hold
I can get 7 RG6 cables and 5 Cat 5e wires in a 1" hole and I saved a ton of $$$ by switching to GEICO www.geico.com

There are just some days a fellow wishes he could just say whatever's on his mind. But of course, we don't all have that luxury.

I've already picked out a spot where this could be mounted, so there is at least a market of one for it. It will be great for choosing cable music channels piped through whole-house audio. Right now I've been bringing my MX3000 into the room. With this, I could just push a button on the wall and be done with it.

Nice!

I second that! I think this is a great innovation from URC. You can't please anybody, there all ove there in RTI's forum bashing about product delays, and over here they are whining about products being realeased too early. It's nice to see URC is putting together a nice line which they will hopefully expand later in the year through some future announcement. And as for you complaining about bugs and quick releases, you probably all buy Microsoft proudcts which wrote the book in that category. Also, it's called SOFTWARE UPDATES. Don't spec out a system until you are confident in it. If you believe in it, why don't you exert some of that whining energy into beta testing?
