Can 980 support multiple MSC-400s and tell the deference between them? It's for a home with two theater rooms.

It can, but as you can't currently add your MX-980 devices to an MSC-400 file, it's a PITA to use it with one MSC-400. If it's something you can wait a few weeks for, I would.
