I spent the last several hours programming my new MX-980. So far, I'm quite impressed! Coming from an MX-900, it took a little while to get used to the new software, but I think I've figured out most of the main stuff. I'm still stumped by one thing, though. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the thing to beep when I issue a command. Right now, it's totally silent. I know the speaker works, because it beeps when I adjust the volume in the setup screen. What am I missing?

i can only assume you've added beeps into your macro?

assuming so, is the volume turned up in the software AND on the units settings screen? mind you i find the units settings seem to over ride whatever you set it to do in the software.

i'm a noob myself, but i have successfully programed beeps. good luck.

You have to go to File, User Preferences, the check the box that says "Beep when a Button is pressed". You can also designate what sound comes out by checking the box above and selecting the sound you want it to make. Also there are many sounds that you can introduce into a macro by clicking on the the speaker symbol when in a macro, such as IR begin and IR end, etc. Be sure to uncheck the default beep box at the top of the sounds pop up window, other wise the sound you select will not be applied. There are a lot of these turn on and turn off annoying features in this software such as the sound beeps, the IR repeat functions and the save feature in the punch thru menu (if you don't save each punch thru for each device as you choose it and only click on save after you have chosen all of the puch thrus for all of your devices only the last one you saved will be remembered). Hope that helps!

Thanks, arnie! That's exactly what I was looking for. It probably would have taken me days to find that on my own. The MX-980 Editor is an amazingly powerful and versatile program, but it does seem to be unnecessarily complicated in some ways. I suppose it doesn't really matter once you've gotten used to it, but it does make the learning curve that much harder.
