I have a Sony RDRVX555 DVD/ VCR and a MX850. I am using the codes for a VX530 from URC's database because it is the closest thing listed by URC.

That works fine and that codeset has everything I need except discrete power. I have found, however, that if I set the player to use "codeset 1" I can use the standard Sony DVD player discrete powers.

So.... in my macros, I simply use the P-ON and P-OFF from a standard Sony DVD player, but to do this I have to either learn the codes or add an extra device to the remote from which I only use these two power codes.

Is there a way to steal individual IR codes from a certain codeset (without using said codeset as a device,) and plug them straight into devices I am using? Again, if possible, I would prefer not to use learning to accomplish this.

Not with the MX-850. You can create a hidden device on Main page 2 (if you don't use page 2) and make shortcuts to those codes.

Yup. With the MX-900 you can use the IR navigator to pick/choose codes. It'd be a nice feature for them to add to the MX-850 if at all possible too.
