I have programmed my MX-850 for use with the DirecTV HR21-700 DVR but I am having trouble with a few functions.

1. The MX-850 can't learn the standard remotes ability to turn On or Off the DVR. I get an error screen asking me if I want to program for a TV. I want to assign these tasks to 2 different LCD buttons.

2. There are a couple of buttons on the standard remote that you can hold down to achieve a task. Can this be done with the MX-850?

I have explored some threads relative to the HR20 box but I don't know if they are the same as the HR21. What's more, I had trouble understanding the help given there.

The HR20 is in the database and has all the commands you need.

I download the database as you suggested. Put it on a new device button. None of the commands did anything to my HR21.

Well I don't know what to tell you then. I've done about a dozen HR21's and I always use the HR20 codes and they work fine. Do you have RF enabled in the receiver for the original remote? You need to turn that off.

I'm sorry but I have no idea to what you refer.

Just did a bunch of HR-21 upgrades, and the codes for H-20 (codeset 173) works perfectly. Did some 800 and 850 remotes.

Please tell me how to get codeset 173 and how to use it.

Hi,

I believe what they mean is to open the IR database, choose your device you want to program, choose DirecTV under Sat, and then select H20 for the device. You will then notice that there is a device number 173 associated with it (specified as a setup number). If you check a few you will notice several of them use the same setup number (and thus the same IR codes). I hope that makes sense.

It does make sense. Thanks for the explanation. I hope to try this tomorrow.
