I seem to be having a problem with use of IR codes from the URC database for directv h20 sat receiver. My troubleshooting suggests the mx950 / database ir codes do not function exactly like the directv remote control (remote model RC32). Here is how I isolated problem.

I am working from room with niles IR flasher that is sending signals to separate equipment room (equipment room has receiver and the sat receiver). Testing the programmed MX950 remote and the directv remote side by side. All components except the H20 respond correctly to the mx950. The h20 only responds intermittently to commands and is far from even being semi functional via the mx950. For the same commands the directv remote functions normally with the h20 responding quickly to all ir commands.

Also repeated these tests on same equipment from another IR flasher zone (another room with separate niles IR flasher/repeater) to make sure there was not some problem with the IR relay ... but exact same behavior.

Any advice? The exact model number on the directv receiver is h20 mfr 100 .. just wondering if possibly the ir database codes that appeared under the "H20" model are not compatible with all H20s...are there other codesets that can be used...

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also I have read the posts to move the IR emitter back away from the receiver or filter by varios means ... but no affect on behavior..

Your best course of action would be to have the MX950 "learn" the codes from the DirecTV remote. I had to do that with the HR20 codes.

Problem mostly solved. Basicaly I think the problem was the 950 blinds the IR replay / emitters. The problem was much greater behind a zone with a 5 year old niles IR relay.. So I changed out to new niles IR which allows for low power setting. That pretty much solves the problem so long as you do not point the 950 directly at the IR receiver. Macros and commands are very solid as long as first bounce off a wall etc.

Still kind of annoying that does not function at all if pointed directly at the IR receiver. New users not always up to speed that they can not point directly at the IR receiver and tend to do so.

Is this equip in a closet/cabinet where there are multiple emmiters? Try turning down the flashers (if adjustable) or turning the one on the DTV 'inside out' by attaching it so that the emmiter is actually pointing away from the component...finally put IR shields (black tape) over all the emmiters...We have installed over 30 URCs on H20s and HR20s (same codes) right from the database and the only issues were to much information from other emmiters and occasionally a defective DTV box...I know this does not maje sense being that the origional remote responds fine - but we've seen it a few times...also, try another DTV box if you can swap with another room.
Uh Oh.

Jim SFL brought up a couple of good points dealing with IR saturation.

If all of your emitters fire when you press a DTV command and there is ANY chance of reflection from the other emitters, it will result in the problems you are having.

Also, if you have line of sight control with the 950 and have an IR repeater(keeping in mind that the 950 has enough IR power to do bank shots off of adjacent walls), then you really don't stand a chance.

The D** receivers are THAT sensitive!

If you were using an mrf-350 base station, you could route the IR as well as 'turn off' the IR of the 950 and eliminate the problem.

With your existing set up, you need to block off the front of the super sensitive dtv receiver.
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!
