I’ve been using the MX 850 for a couple years now and I would like a remote that has more screens and uses USB. Plus, I never did like these five letter function labels.

So I was shopping at Mike’s remote store (surf remote) and see there are several MX remotes that have come out since I bought the 850 and I see some posts here about a 980 that is supposed to be coming out soon. I just don’t like the size and shape of the MX 3000 and would prefer the traditional hand held, narrow stile of remote. Keeping that in mind, the 810, 900, 950 and now this 980 are the ones I’d be interested in.

Is there a comparison sheet somewhere detailing what the differences are between these remotes? Or better yet, could folks who have used, or at least know a little about each one give me a summery of the pro’s / con’s of each?

The remote will be controlling my HT equipment that is in the rear of the room (which is why I need RF). I use a scope screen and an anamorphic lens.

thanks for the input...........mike

If you like the software to the 850, I'd narrow the choice to the 900, 950, or 980.

900 - Excellent remote for the price point if variables are added as committed

950 - Top shelf remote with sound, multiple background colors, simple monochrome graphics, variables, page navigation +/-, excellent key layout, and motion sensor pickup. Some would say most of feature set of 3000 in a hard button remote. There is nothing I have found this remote can not do

980 - I do not own but appears to be an upgrade to 950 that has best of layout from 900 & 950 and color graphics but has only 8 LCD buttons compared to 10 for 950.

If money is no object get 980 or 950, but the 900 remote is excellent and a huge upgrade from 850 imho

Price conscious? MX-900 (I had the MX-850 layout, and although it took a few weeks to get used to the 900, I like it much more than the 850 now.)

More $ in pocket? MX-980

Skip the MX-950, IMHO, due to button placement.

Also, it's been discontinued, so if you really want one, you don't have much time left.

Thanks for the input. So where does the 810 fit into this comparatively to the 980? At first glance, it would appear that this 980 is the animal to get, but I’d like to know what it has / does over the 810.

When do you expect to be selling the 980’s Mike?

Holy cow, really?

Not too suprising I guess, but I didn't think it would happen this soon.

Although I know the stock of MX-700's stuck around with a lot of local dealers (and online ones too I think) after it was discontinued, so maybe it will be still available for a little while.

Unless, you just get a stupid deal on the MX950, it makes more sense to wait on the cheaper and better MX980.
If the minor price differences is not an issue then there are a couple of really nice options by other companies.

The trash! The software is not for Pros. It might be for you but not for me. Great looks bad programming. What a shame. :-(

That's too bad. The 810 looks like the most ergo freindly remote URC has.

I'll wait and get the 980. Does the 980 have a charging cradle? That's one bitch I've had with the 850, the need to change batteries.......

Yep, it has a charging cradle and comes with a lithium-ion battery, just like the 950. In fact, the cradle looks (and may be) exactly the 950's.

Now that the cat is out of the bag and the 980 can not be bought from an internet dealer, that remote is no longer an option for me. I live out in the toolies 300 miles away from anyone who may be able to sell me one (Best Buy is it).

Can the 810 do everything that my 850 can? I use numerous macros to configure input and display profiles with the VP50Pro for each source (I use a "switch" macro function to change source inputs that includes the macros). I also need to drag all the discrete test pattern commands to the remote for the VP so I can calibrate my projector from time to time.

Too bad about the 980, I was looking forward to picking up one of those. If the 810 will not do what I need it to, the 900 may be my only option.

Is the 950 still incompatable with Vista?

Mike you have mail, the 810 can be a decent remote, but it is no where near the same animal as an 850 or 980.
