I have my MX-900 programmed for the new HR20-700 as well as two H10-250 dvrs. I was not able to find working codes in the IR database but all the learned codes work perfectly on my system.

I did have trouble getting the codes for the HR20 to learn initially. It was puzzling to me since I had not had that problem with learning codes from remotes for either of my D* H10-250 HDVRs. Finally it occurred to me to check the default remote setup for the HR20 and found mine to be on RF instead of IF. Once I changed that setting, learning the codes was a snap.

I will be happy to share my MX900 configuration file for those who might find it useful. My setup is probably a bit unique. The D* installers said they had never seen 3 HD DVRs connected to one set before. I use a Monoprice HDMI switcher and it's programmed in to automatically change to the correct HDMI switch for each specific device, including my OPPO DVD Player.

I probably should more clearly state the specifics of my entire A/V setup here, but as the hour is late for me now, I will have to do that at a later time.

There are two codes for the Play, FF, REW, replay, and
30 sec slip buttons. If you pick the right one it will
support the 3sec hold down functions that the OEM remote
does.

Where are you seeing these 2 codes?

Using John Fine's wonderfull tools you can generate all possible codes for the HR20, and then through trial and error figure out what they do. Someone over on dbstalk did exactly that and then documented them.

You won't find the necessary codes in URC's database.

And for anyone who thinks they have a working configuration, try holding down the PLAY, REPLAY, FFW, REW, and 30 sec slip buttons on the OEM for 3 seconds and compare what happens to doing the same on the remote you've configured.

New owner of a HR20 with a MX-900. I thought I had the initial programming done, but now I am not sure.

Who is John Fine and what are his wonderful tools?

What does holding down the buttons on the OEM remote do? I very briefly tried it last night and did not see anything. My OEM remote is the RC34.

Has anyone with a HR20 created any macro shortcuts for most used activities?

I would like to review others set up if possible. Please PM me if you would like to share.

I used the codes for the H20 out of the IR database (#173) and if I hold down FF for 3 seconds nothing happens, but then if I press FF once more it will advance. It appears to do this for Rewind, Replay, Advance, and Play. It's not a 1 button press solution, but it's good enough.

John is a guru of IR. If you search around on this site and over at the JP1 communities (on other sites) you'll find his utilities and many posts about IR. DecodeIR, IRTools, and MakeHex are some of the utilities for manipulating IR codes.

What Oliwa is seeing is what happens when you have the primary codes programmed in. The OEM remote will send the primary code for 3 seconds, and then send the secondary code. But what works just fine is to just send the secondary code.

If you search threads on the HR20 on this site or over at the DBStalk forums, you should be able to find the codes.

Sorry, I will search the sites, but I still do not know what I am looking for and why?

What does the Primary Code do?

What does the Secondary Code do?

Remember, I am currently not in front of my DVR/TV right now and I want to know what to look for tonight.

There's a CCF file with all the HR20 codes in it, in this
thread.

[Link: dbstalk.com]

These codes do not contain the secondary codes (skip to next tick, etc) as far as I can tell. Does anyone have these codes? Or the operation number from the Excel spreadsheet?

Sadly, skip to tick, skip to beg, skip to end, and slow do not exist as discrete codes, but if you use the alternate codes for FF, REW, REPLAY, and PLAY you can hold them down for 3 seconds and get those functions like how the OEM remote works.

Here's an example.

If you press the play button it sends the primary play code. If you hold it down for 3 seconds it will send the secondary play code, and your DVR will enter "slow" play mode.

The code URC provides in their data base is the primary code. However if you program the secondary code in to your remote for the play button it will behave like the OEM remote even though it's not sending both codes.

Anybody know where I can find codes for the A/V 1 mode, which is required for controlling 2 HR20's with one remote?

Thanks,

Dennis

I had to generate them by hand using John Fine's MakeHex program.

Jon,

How would I go about doing this? I searched here for MakeHex, and found the instructions for creating russound.hex, but then what do I do with it? I am using code 00003 in my second HR20. If I can create a ccf, then obviously I can get the codes into the MX-950 editor.

Thanks,
Dennis

If you are using an MRF base station with them, you don't need to learn the other code. Just route the IR for each individual receiver.

Sounds like you're solving the puzzle... so, here's the piece you're looking for. I figured it out by capturing the IR from the OEM remote and running it through DecodeIR. If you've figured out how to run makehex, then you should be able to do something with this...

here's the hr20.irp file for the primary codeset (input file to makehex):

Device=12
Function=0..255
Frequency=38400
Time Base=601
Zero=1,-1
One=1,-2
Two=2,-1
Three=2,-2
First Bit=MSB
Define C=7*(F:2:6)+5*(F:2:4)+3*(F:2:2)+(F:2)
Form=10,-2;D:4,F:8,C:4,1,-50,5,-2

And here's the hr20alt.irp file that you need:

Device=2
Function=0..255
Frequency=38400
Time Base=601
Zero=1,-1
One=1,-2
Two=2,-1
Three=2,-2
First Bit=MSB
Define C=7*(F:2:6)+5*(F:2:4)+3*(F:2:2)+(F:2)
Form=10,-2;D:4,F:8,C:4,1,-50,5,-2

Note the difference is just device 2 .vs. 12. With the spreadsheet provided on the dbstalk forum you should be able to figure out how to assign the codes.

The program hex2ccf is handy for converting all the hex codes in to a ccf file.
