We need you to be more specific. When you say that you "programmed the Kenwood", what exactly did you do? Assigned a setup code? Which one and to which device button? Or do you mean something else?

What is "programming the Master power"? Using the 995 command? If so, that is a simple macro, but it will leave you in whichever device mode was specified last in the macro.

Did you perhaps use the 979 Home Theater command?

Next, when you did the 981 command, did the remote respond with 4 blinks? If so, the reset really has restored your remote to factory condition. That means you'll need to re-assign the setup codes, and your Master Power macro is erased.

You can blink back each setup code by using the 990 command. It would be a good idea to confirm that the desired setup code is actually in use.
