You should be good to go as long as you continue to use the standalone editor. There's nothing "better" in the CCP for the MX-880. It's just more convenient for installers that work with multiple remote types. I don't know what they're going to do about updates. I don't see any reason why they'd move the "Live Update" server location, so it should continue to get IR DB updates.
