Yes, the newer ones do have new "CCP" firmware.
Supposedly, to get it to work with the standalone editor, you need to do the boot loader procedure (which was first mentioned for the MX-900).
1. Remove the battery
2. Hold down Power ON and MUTE , while inserting battery
This should put it in boot loader mode and you should be able to download from the standalone editor.
