For example: If Your station carries Family Guy at 7:PM on channel XX-1 the same epsiode would reboradcast at 8:PM on Channel XX-2 and again at 9 on XX-3 and 10:PM on XX-4.
It's something unique that you'd probably never see happen. Most likely the reason...cost.
You'd likely find that if it involves network programming, the network agreement wouldn't allow it.
As an example, if a station stays local due to breaking news, it needs permission from the network to show programs missed at later times. Likewise advertisers buy specific times and you can't mess with commercials (or give them a second run for free).
