If it has no HDMI, then he's going to be limited to *regular* lossy DTS and Dolby Digital (basically the same as DVD). There is no "Dolby Digital HD" format named as such, so I'm not exactly sure which you're referring to there (Dolby TrueHD? Dolby Digital Plus?).
Basically there's only two ways to get any sort of uncompressed/lossless audio from BD: HDMI, and analog 5.1/7.1. The BDP-BX1 doesn't have 5.1 analog outputs, so that won't be of help either.
