I think what we are seeing here is a multi-part approach by Phillips, within the new 9600. Wi-Fi remotes using the WAP network environment have been subject to a lot of network peculiarities, causing the Nevo SL and a few other Wi-Fi remotes to struggle, mostly based on the quality of the network.
That being said, I am guessing Phillips decided to eliminate the open wi-fi part in lieu of restricted control with Escient and Radio RA. Until such time they have proven to be solid, I am guessing Philips might not open the environment further.
So, until they open the environment further, most people cannot control other objects without a serious programming background, like Lyndell. Others will have to live with the limited wi-fi control aspects for awhile.
