I had the same problem last week.
Take out the battery, by the side of the battery conection
there is a little round silver button this is the reset
button. Press the button and this will reset the remote
control no files will be lost.

That's fine to fix the freeze, but it doesn't fix the underlying problem which causes the units to freeze in the first place. To fix that problem you need to update your software/firmware....
