Before you buy a universal / learning remote, check eBay to see if someone is selling a remote identical (but unchewed!) to your original. Sometimes you can find them for a very reasonable price on eBay (especially if you can be patient).
Even if you end up eventually buying a multiple device remote, having a WORKING original can be useful. You may need it in the future to access some infrequently used feature, or to reprogram the learning remote, or simply to remind yourself of what features exist on your original remote (some button you may not use right now may come in quite handy in 6 months!).
