I was researching something else and I think I stumbled on to the reason for your problem. The MCE Remote sends out toggle codes and so each press of the same key will send out a different IR code which makes the teaching of commands very complicated. I would contact HTI to see if they have any pre-built codes libraries that emulate the MCE as I suspect this is the only way it will work.
