I have solved the "1" button problem in a round-about way!!!
My 3-months old Anthem AVM-20's remote has a universal remote capability which I previously set-up to control the Sony M555ES changer. I tried learning the TSU3000's "1" button from the AVM-20's remote and it worked perfectly the first time!! (Not very scientifically satisfying but it worked.)
