Yeah, VTR1 was meant for Beta, VTR2 for 8mm and VTR3 for VHS, however higher-end machines could be switched between all three (I have a fairly recent SLV-M91HF that does all 3).
There's also VTR4, VTR5 and VTR6 but those were only used for DV machines.
