As for tools, you lose the ability to "Learn" only if you disable the toolbar at the side on your iPronto configuration. But you can enable it in iProntoEdit, upload the file to your iPronto, learn the codes and then upload it from your iPronto, disable toolbar and then download it back to your iPronto! A bit longwinded, but it works fine and you won't have to do it too often, unless you're the world's worst shopaholic! Oh, and don't forget to save the icf once you have learned the codes!
