I posted the following on the Pronto NG forum. Might ultimately be relevant to this thread.
"IBM hosts an annual brainfest at its Almaden research facility. One of the presenters provided details of a device he's dubbed "Lil' Me." I won't rewrite all of the details, but it's a handheld device that is a voice and video phone, music player, electronic car lock opener, has GPS, and, in case you lose it, it transmits its position, flashes credit card info to cash registers, only allows people who pass its retinal scan to use it, and last, but not least is a home entertainment system touch screen remote control! The presenter, an IBM middle manager, says that all of the technology needed already exists, and that a device that looks like his description of Lil Me should be available within 2 years."
