Please ignore this thread. I called Philips and they verified directly that this remote will not directly control a Philips DVP-642 dvd player. I know I can learn the codes, but I think I will return this remote. This is the first time I ever saw a brand name remote not be able to "via factory settings" control a component manufactured by the same company.

On top of the remote being real light and pretty cheezy overall, the fact that it wont even directly control a device of the same brand has persuaded me to pass on Philips products.

I hope everybody else has had a better experience with this. I just bought the Sony 3100 and I thouht that was a bad choice because it was so hard to read, and lacked custom labeling over most of the screen. I will reconsider.

Just for the record, Philips techinal support asked me if I had viseted the RemotCentral web site. Kudos Remote Central!

Good day,

Paul
