Considering you're the only one who's complained about it in over 2 years I don't think it's a big issue.

It may be true that you need to have it auto-connect the first time but after that you can go to the website manually (from anywhere with just a regular browser) and modify your configuration to your heart's content. I'm 95% sure that when you download your configuration it runs the necessary software. I think the monitor program is just used to get you to the website automatically when you plug in the remote - which you don't have to do.
