You can connect to the internet and change your configuration all you want. I do it from work all the time and I've never connected the remote to my work computer.

There is no reason you can't start the harmony monitor manually when needed.

As for the security settings - it has to download a file to your PC as do many other programs. If you choose to block that activity then it's not Logitech's fault.
