it is actually a very new Sony dvd player HT-1700D, i got it before it was even out in the marketplace about 2 mos ago..i still have yet to try a legitimate dvd and not one that was simply transferred from mpeg, so i can let you know, but even transferred ones i would rather play on dvd player..but yes, the ps2 is newer as i ust bought this past weekend, so i am not sure if that would make a difference..
