It can play DVD-Audio. It has HDMI output with a decent upconversion circuit to HDTV resolution. Better DACs for music listening. Just about the world's best deinterlacer chip. Better build quality.
One thing that neither can do is give no layer change pause, you'd have to get a lesser Denon for that. Silly, really, that Denon didn't include that larger buffer in the 5900.
