They don't make DVDs specific for Walmart. The one-disc version of Gladiator, Shrek, and many other movies are chopped down versions they started selling last year. I thought it was the exact same disc as the movie disc in the 2-disc original sets, but perhaps not if they took out the DTS.

You can still buy the 2-disc version. Maybe not at Walmart, but there are other places. Walmart has always been a cheap place, but their WS editions sell out instantly and then they have FS sitting on the shelf. Or they won't sell the good editions. It's really not the best place to buy DVDs.

Anyway, it is the studios, not the retailers that decided it would be a good idea to do this. This industry is bizarre. It used to be you'd get a crappy version right away, with an SE or CE later. Then you have these discs where the good edition comes first and they slice it down to cheap later. The only DVD release that has really been done well for all types of consumers is Lord of the Rings.
