I have the same model. I have DirecTV. I go from the svideo port out on my DSS receiver to the svideo in on the dvd recorder. Then I go component out (on the dvd recorder) to my TV. I then go from composite out on my VCR to one of the composite ins on the dvd recorder. I also go from optical out on the dvd recorder to one of my optical inputs on my A/V receiver. Also from optical out on the DSS receiver to a second optical in on the A/V receiver. I only change the line input on the dvd recorder when I play or dub from the VCR. Cannot use the VCR for TV recording, but who cares because you now have a dvd recorder.
