SONY January 6th at CES in Las Vegas, SONY showed a prototype of their planned HDTV DSS receiver the
SATM100. It will take advantage of SONY's i.LINK® IEEE1394 digital interface, so hopefully no more trying to hunt conversion boxes to hook your HDTV satellite receiver to your HDTV monitor (like with RCA's DTC100).

IEEE1394 is now officially the standard (as per the HDTV Consumer Electronics Association) meaning that all new HDTV receivers, TV, etc, are
supposed to have an Firewire IEEE1394 /iLink jack on them. This should hopefully stabilize the HDTV market and get it rolling now that there is finally a standard jack for all components (great for new buyers, not so great for people who already own equipment).

In actuallity, the Firewire standard was adopted last year, however most companies, were either past the design stage to add it in, or decided to release without it to keep costs down. That may now prove a frightening thing for some people as it means that there could be potential hookup problems for anyone who had already purchased HDTV equipment.
