The RCA receiver can use one of two sets of IR codes so that one remote can operate two receivers independently. At least this is true for my RCA receiver (DRD3030 I think) (per the manual, the RCA DRD480RE receiver supports this) most likely all models support this.

The Hughes receivers can use one of eight sets of IR codes so that one remote could operate up to eight receivers (per the manual for the HIRD-D45)

I could not find a manual for a current model Sony receiver so I am not sure of the Sony support for this feature but I would expect the Sony receiver to support at least two sets of IR codes. Check with a local dealer that sells the Sony receivers.
