The "format" on any type of DVD movie, regardless of stamped/+R/-R/whatever is the same. It's a pattern of 0s and 1s that when read and decoded can be played as a movie through your TV. MPEG-something.
What differs is how the 0s and 1s are greated on the disk. The goal is to make the 0s enough different from the 1s so that the DVD player laser can "see" the difference.
At least that's the way I understand it all.
I'm sometimes wrong, so do your own research too.
