Bob,
I use X-10 Powermids $49.95 and Xantech IR emitters. The powermids have an IR output port. If you get a radio shack headphone splitter you can plug in two Xantech dual emitters giving you control of up to 4 components. The powermids also work great by themselves if sunlight isn't an issue.
