Devices that are constantly sucking power even when "off", are part of President Bush's energy conservation plans. VCRs draw power to maintain their clock and any programming, as well as monitor the remote input for any IR commands. TVs draw power so they can appear to be "instant on". Essentially they never turn off. Big energy sin these days.

Supposedly manufacturers have new strategies for these devices that prevent them from constantly drawing power. I'm not sure what those strategies entail, but new devices implementing them would hopefully work with an appliance module for X10 power on and off.

My point? Wait a few years. You may be able to buy a new VCR you CAN X10 ON and OFF.

An alternative? Trade your VCR for one that does support discrete ON and OFF codes. That's what I did.
