I have installed hundreds of these (part # 5601)and have never had one with a problem like that. I am not saying I don't believe it.

I would return all 10 (I'm sure Leviton would like to see them), and get new ones.

1- Don't store clothes on or above your space heater.
2- Check the batteries in your smoke detectors.
3- Lightning could hit your house too!
