Try unplugging your stereo gear/TV/computer and see if it works.
I unplugged my stereo gear and TV and my X10 stuff started working but not every time. As soon as I unplugged my computer my X10 was up and running. I decided to buy filters for all my gear just in case and haven't had a problem since.
Try unplugging them one at a time to narrow down the offending gear. You have to unplug them and not just turn them off.
The cheaper X10 switches don't have a ground wire. I've always wondered if that's a problem but I don't know. Maybe some of our resident electricians on this forum could shed some light on that for us.
