Thanks guys. Unfortunately it would be a real pain to run a neutral wire to the switch. When they built the house(1989) they wired two boxes, one for the fans light and another for the fans on/off/speed control with rotating switch. They should have known to run a neutral wire but they didn't.

I was afraid all switches still required a neutral wire but I noticed new Switchlinc RX switches didn't require neutral wires so hoped one like that was made for inductive loads.
