ELA & the X-10 person is correct! I just tried it with my Sony AV-3100 and IR543. Live and learn. It doesn't matter what the slider switch on the IR543 is set at as long as the IR signal is coming from the Sony remote, the IR543 will convert and send it on. The slider is only needed when using the IR543's own buttons. So yes, your Sony remote will be able to operate all your independant zones with the IR543.
