The reason as to why you need to have UL or CL approved cable is because if your house caught on fire, the cable will not transmit heat or electricity through to the rest of the house.. IE. you have an attic fire that would have been easily extinguished, but the speaker cable spreads the fire throughout the rest of the house!!! Also, if you are going to have runs of cable longer than 50ft, a 16/2 will conduct a rather large loss in signal degredation. 14/2 or 14/2 (gauge/#of conductors)rcl cable will do you much better and will also protect your biggest investment... your home!!
