This is really old news, and shouldn't be this much of an issue on those 2 units. Bass management has been an issue on every high-rez audio player. It was an extra huge issue to people who bought the 2900 (and basically any universal player before that), but it was altered for the subsequent units with better bass management. Specifically, for the 2200, 2910 and 3910. The 2900 and 3910 are excellent performers for the money, but the 2900 requires some insane tweaking if your processor doesn't have level adjustments on the analog inputs.
The standard tweak is to use the receiver/prepro for movies with the digital output since you have to use the 2900's DAC for the high-rez anyway. Then you can set the 2900 for the bass issue without worrying about the levels for movies.
