Great tip we discovered today.
If the Yamaha has the "zone B" capability, Yamaha has the discretes for "B on", "B off" & "A on", "A off".
This worked in an amazing way today with an MX-850/rf in a luxury condo. We inserted the "B Off" command in the "system off" macro so the client could always begin TV/Music in the main room only. Radio, CD & Music (cable box music) & FAV page has a "B On" & "B Off".
A Zone 2 amplifier is always cooler, however, the place is so small there was no need to upgrade the client's receiver to a "zone 2".
Let me know if you need the codes. They are in an MX file format.
