I personally use a mx-800 in my house which is the old 850. My wife uses it confidently, my 4 year old, and any guests. Its one of the best in the price range. I would consider doing the main page items like this

You get the point. Its more descript than dvd or cd or tv. It helps eliminate the guess work for noobs picking up the remote for the first time. I actually have mine setup as the button associated with WATCH is surround sound and the buttons getting pointed at uses the sound within the TV.
