So, you want a Linux box?
How exactly would these VOBs get to this machine? Frankly, it sounds like you want a DVD player. Plenty of those around. Maybe a PS3 or Xbox 360 for streaming from the computer.
Hate to tell you, but the Buffalo is Microsoft. Or Apple. And it is just a DVDp with pass-through streaming capability. Similar to the game systems.
