Just because a remote is capable of advanced programming, doesn't mean you have to utilize it, it's certainly not a reason to avoid the remote.

To put it another way, suppose you're looking for a new car and you have no intention of driving over the 55 MPH speed limit. Would you avoid any cars *capable* of exceeding the speed limit?

Normal programming on the 15-2116 is just as easy as it is on any other universal remote, you just look up your devices in the setup code list in the manual, then you type it in.

Now, there's no guarantee that every single function from your original remote will be supported, nor is there any guarantee that all of your devices will be supported, that's the gamble you take with any universal remote.

JP1 users are people who want their universal remote to control every function for every device in their system. Furthermore, they want to be able to create all sorts of macros to make the remote easier to use. So their needs go beyond your needs. While some remotes need parts soldered in for them to be JP1 compatible, the 15-2116 is not one of them, it's JP1 compatible out of the box.

The 15-2116 is also a learning remote, so if there are any functions missing when you try the built in setup codes, you could do the "head to head" thing to fill in the blanks.

ps. It was probably on my web site that you saw some JP1 screen shots.
