The JP1 approach seems a bit overly complex for this (doesn't quite fit the "simple" goal), but if I find a JP1 compatible remote that I like, it's probably worth considering.

I don't see anything of the sort. Does it go by a different name now? I figured I could look up which remotes are compatible within the RDF folder...

Is it a combination of the packages listed there?
