Thanks for the reply robman. I think the second of the three remotes I did try was a sony one. All three of them were learning remotes. From what I gather though (at least on the models I tried) you have to get at least the first signal from the library. After you have THAT signal then you can start the "learning" process of programming individual buttons or macros.

The JP1 compatible one sounds interesting. Is there a place that has more information on it. Does the cable come with it or do I need to do some modifying? I did some searching but did not come up with much...:( A link would help out.

By the way guys (and gals) I am a total newbie to the whole remote control thing so bear with me. The information above is just how I understood the directions. I got the philips universal remote thinking they would suley have the code in THEIR library since it was magnavox. I was mistaken. Thanks again for your help. I know this is the place for the best answers
